On Wednesday, a lady called Avril, from Actionaid, came to talk to us about our new adopted child.
Over the past year, each class has saved money raised from Parent Celebrations to put towards sponsoring a child from another country. This is a fantastic opportunity for us to learn about a new country and culture and also help someone who isn't lucky enough to have an Oakfield Primary School to go to!
Avril told us about Joao Guilherme Santos Lemos (his name translates to Jon). He is 7 years old and lives in Brazil. The school council chose to sponsor a child from Brazil because they had heard about the dangers and violence of living there and they wanted to help a child avoid the gangs and get a good education.
'Jon'lives in a wooden house with his grandparents and his brother and sister. His brother is called Thiago and his sister is called Carol. Jon is lucky because with our money he can have a room of his own and go to school.
Jon has already written us a letter and sends us a hug. We are going to write to him and tell him all about Oakfield!
